Students
participate in Ensembles in addition to weekly
instruction. Performing in a group provides many
rewards. Students develop their rhythmic and listening
skills to a greater degree when given an opportunity
to play with others. The Music Learning Center
offers a wide range of performing group opportunities
including string ensembles, jazz groups, flute
ensembles, and singing groups. Additional information
about these programs is available upon request.
Keyboard
Bands
Overview
“Keyboard Bands” are offered to
piano students off all ages and levels of experience
as a supplement to their weekly private lessons.
Each Band will feature up to six piano students
who will perform special arrangements played
on keyboard instruments, and using a wide range
of instrument sounds. Keyboard Bands meet once
per week for eight weeks and conclude with a
final performance at a Music Learning Center
Recitals.
Keyboard
Band Room
The MLC’s Group Piano Classroom will serve
as home to the Keyboard Band program. Using
“state of the art” digital pianos*,
headsets, and a unique control console that
allows students to be paired in any combination,
the Keyboard Band room allows for both individual
attention and ensemble performances.
*Digital Pianos offer a weighted action keyboard
and touch sensitivity that replicates the feel
and response of a piano, along with the ability
to select from hundreds of additional instrument
sounds.
The
Music
Selections will be chosen to match the abilities
of the students who make up each individual
“Band”. Pieces will draw from a
wide range of musical styles including Pop,
Classical, Jazz, Contemporary and Rock. Certain
“Bands” will be formed specifically
to explore particular musical genres, while
others will provide students with a chance to
play in a variety of musical styles.
Benefits
Performing in a group provides many rewards.
Students develop their rhythmic and listening
skills to a greater degree when given an opportunity
to play with others. While most instrumentalists
are afforded this experience through school
bands and orchestra, piano students have historically
found few opportunities to become a part of
a performing group. Now with the development
of Keyboard Bands, part of a significant new
trend in music education across the country,
piano students can participate in the joy of
making music with others.
Additional benefits include: improved sight
reading, introduction to arranging concepts,
development of skills in teamwork, added confidence
in performance. Plus…
Keyboard Bands are Great Fun!!
Placement
By consulting in advance with each student’s
private instructor each “Keyboard Band”
will be formed with students who have similar
levels of experience and musical interests.
Also, a special inter-generational Parent/Child
Band will be offered!
